For fans of bass music, Swindle’s is a name that should come with immediate excitement. His sophomore album, 2013’s Long Live the Jazz (for Mala‘s Deep Medi Musik imprint), delved deeper than he had previously into fusing the worlds of more melodic, musical movements in the world of dubstep and bass music in general. With a shift to incorporate more live instrumentation into electronic music sets over the last few years, now seems to have been the time for Swindle to really take it there.
Enter Peace, Love & Music, Swindle’s next opus, which is due out on the iconic Butterz imprint on September 25th. The London-based musician went for truly capturing the sounds he’s picked up touring the globe and siphoned them into his particularly amazing lane, churning out everything from bouncy grime anthems to jazzed-up jungle gems, amongst nods to Dam-Funk, world music in general, and so much more. Featuring collaborations from JME, Mungo’s Hifi, Flowdan, and more, it’s an intriguing look at how one man’s vision for a sound can be influenced by so many.
For the first preview from the project, Swindle takes it to Los Angeles, linking up with LA-based artist Ash Riser (who himself has a few Kendrick Lamar credits under his belt) for this laidback bass beast. Letting Ash’s vocals set a soothing tone over that light guitar, Swindle steps things up with crispy drums and some trumpet to provide a calm before storm of heavier bass smack dab in the middle of this track. The strings towards the end? Heavenly.
