Over the past year, JuegoTheNinety and Flash Giordani have proven themselves to be two of the more emotive, idiosyncratic rappers from Baltimore’s rising crop of talent. New collaborative EP He’s Asian, I’m Black showcases their humor and energetic styles, amalgams of past greats working towards their own definition with every release. Hypnotic project centerpiece “Hot Coffee” feels like the closest they’ve come yet to making something immediately accessible that doesn’t sacrifice what makes each rapper unique (particularly in the case of Juego’s serpentine closing verse). It’s the sort of project that hopefully points to something larger and more fully realized, like something Prince Paul and Dan the Automator would make if they were currently early 20-somethings cruising Soundcloud.
