Sinead O’Connor has never been one to hold her tongue. She recently took to her personal Facebook page to make the bold, hyperbolic statement that “music has officially died.” The singer’s outburst was a result of reality star Kim Kardashian being on the latest cover of Rolling Stone.
O’Connor posted: “What is this cunt (“I don’t smile much because it causes wrinkles”) doing on the cover of Rolling Stone? Music has officially died. Who knew it would be Rolling Stone that murdered it? Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh can no longer be expected to take all the blame. Bob Dylan must be fucking horrified. #BoycottRollingStone #AGenerationIsBeingGroomedAndSilenced”
However: Kim Kardashian isn’t really the first non-musician to cover Rolling Stone. The magazine has featured actors, actresses and models on their covers for many years now. Beavis and Butthead were even on the cover—more than once, at that. But for whatever reason, Kardashian seems to be the last straw for Sinead O’Connor.
In 2013, O’Connor penned an open letter to Miley Cyrus claiming that Cyrus was “sending the message that it’s cool to be prostituted.” So perhaps her real issue is with women over sexualizing themselves for fame. Either way, Sinead O’Connor is not happy, yet again.
