Earlier this month, Chance The Rapper confirmed the exciting rumors that he and Kanye West have been working on music together. However, it appears that we could have heard a collaboration from them a lot sooner—but in a very different way than most fans are expecting.

In a recent interview with The GuardianChance admitted that Kanye was initially going to be the narrator for The Social Experiment’s Surf album. Chance explained that Kanye actually got to hear the entirety of Surf “before anyone else,” and that “he was going to narrate it at one point.” But as listeners of the album know, that unfortunately did not work as planned. “In the final weeks of getting ready to put it out we had vocal chops that we were using from ’Ye talking about some of the themes of the project,” said Chance. “Through just thinking about it, it didn’t end up happening that way. Not to say it wouldn’t have been dope as shit!”

There’s no doubt that hearing Kanye’s voice narrate the entire Surf album would have made fans feels just as excited as Chance was to get a co-sign from Kanye, but it seems like we’re all just going to have to continue to wait patiently as they perfect the details on their future collaboration.
