Dylan Brady and hnrk share a lot in common despite their disparate sounds. For one, they both occupy a sound-space entirely their own, but perhaps more significantly, they’re both undeniably talented producers representing the exciting new youth-led wave of Soundcloud artists putting out music more professional sounding than what has come before.
The slickness in Dylan’s production and vocal work was evident on his debut album, and hnrk has been putting out gold for some time now, so even the prospect of these two working together is enough to get us excited. The result, however, is even better than one could hope for. “It’s Been a While” darkens the tone into a melancholy dirge that verges on hopeless pleading, with the stark lyrics painting a heart-breaking story that doesn’t fill in the gaps it leaves.
With its tone-setting True Detective sample, it’s definitely a far-cry from some of the more bombastic material on Dylan’s debut, but it falls perfectly in line with hnrk’s penchant for creating lonesome soundscapes unlike anyone else. It should go without saying, but these two make for a beautiful pairing.
