Toronto producer Deebs and Los Angeles singer Jarell Perry haven’t actually met, but their music that suggests, at very least, suggests serious synergy—at very least a shared vision aesthetic vision.
On “Giving U” Deebs and co-producer Meesha craft a beat that builds with restraint, syrupy R&B with Blade Runner synthesizers and clopping, clattering production. Perry fits himself perfectly into Deebs’ soundscape, at times soaring above, at times weaving wordlessly into the fabric. “Giving U” also smartly focuses on a simple refrain as it plays out, inviting listeners to get lost in its smart repetition and textural depth.
