Paris-born, Harlem-raised, and now Brooklyn-based Salomon Faye has something a lot of up-and-coming rappers lack: presence. Rapping like a not-so-distant cousin of Rawkus-era Mos Def, Faye leans on each word with deliberate weight and conviction. The video for recent single “W.T.F.” puts his striking look and casual charisma on display, a starkly shot black and white clip tracking Faye’s performance in an alley as his crew assembles around him. It’s a simple video that keeps the focus squarely on the young emcee.
