So it looks like the listing on Harvest’s website went up a little too early, as Death Grips’ highly anticipated double album the powers that b will not be released today. What is interesting, however, is that Death Grips announced the pre-orders for the record and the release date of March 31 officially on their Facebook page today, meaning this is the first official word we’ve gotten from the trio on the release date. Seemingly to compensate for this situation, the group have shared the title track from the upcoming album.
Just as heavy as everything else we’ve heard from the second half of the album, Jenny Death, the title track is as lengthy and as wild as both “Inanimate Sensation” and “On GP” combined. Trudging along with a considerably chunky riff, “The Powers That B” is just further proof that Death Grips still have what it takes to be as extreme as they were when they made their debut in 2011.
It’s important to note that the Twitter that originally pointed us to both of these dates (March 17 and March 31) also said that they would be announcing a tour in exactly one week from now on March 24, so here’s hoping Death Grips will be making a return to the stage soon. Listen to “The Powers That B” below, and check out the tweet that pre-dated all of this below that. Pre-order options are available here.
