After a year of recording, Cork, Ireland based electro-pop duo Young Wonder return with “Intergalactic,” an excellent refinement of the sound that first drew our attention in late 2012. While 2013 EP Show Your Teeth bursted at the seems with sounds, “Intergalactic” strives for a certain sonic clarity, clean percussion and plucking cast against gauzy guitar. As with the duo’s past releases, it’s a shimmering near-four minutes, but one that relies more on careful selection than the full-on, sun-in-your-eyes electro-pop blowouts that typified Young Wonder’s earlier sound. A promising indicator of the duo’s vision for progressing their sound: winnowing it to its core.
