No Ceilings: Skepta

Skepta has had a big year, and he’s all set to take things to the next level with the release of his new album Konnichiwa on March 1, 2015.

With “That’s Not Me,” the MC made 2014’s big grime anthem in the UK, while over in the US, Skepta’s visibility skyrocketed. He collaborated with A$AP Mob’s Young Lord on the raw “It Ain’t Safe” and made a remix of “That’s Not Me” with Wiki from Ratking which came with a fresh visual shot in New York. On top of that, the UK MC headlined his first show in New York, performed at MoMA PS1, took on A$AP Rocky and the Mob at the Red Bull Culture Clash, and saw support coming from people like Virgil Abloh and Theophilus London.

We caught up with Skepta in the studio in New York as he was putting the finishing touches on his new album with fellow Boy Better Know member and Lord Of The Mics founder Jammer. In between recording vocal takes, and tweaking beats, the two OGs talked to us about staying true to grime, standing out, and Konnichiwa. They also shared the incredibly exciting news that The Sreets legend Mike Skinner and Dev Hynes will both appear on the album.

While you get hype for forthcoming Skepta/Skinner goodness, watch our video above, and make sure you listen closely at the end for a sneak peek of Skepta’s new single with Dev Hynes, which DJ EZ has exclusively until January 1.
