One of Chicago rapper Saba’s greatest strengths in a still developing arsenal is a graceful capacity for capturing the weight of growing up in the scarred city with an insight and mournfulness typically reserved for older observers (and also usually handled with heavy hands).
On new single “Next Door,” Saba and equally world-weary Chicagoan Lucki Eck$ join forces to look back bittersweetly on childhoods still so close at hand (Saba is 20 years old and Lucki is 18 years old). Over beautiful, bubbling production, the duo puts a poignant cap on a year of excellent musical output.
