Best Songs of the Week

1. Nick Hakim - “Sleep”

Some musicians put so much soul into their music that listening to their songs can make you feel all of their emotions, even when you can’t remotely relate to the situation. It’s a special gift that not too many artists have but for those that do, it’s impossible for you to not share their pain if even for only a moment. Right now, Nick Hakim is the artist who does that for me.

“Sleep” is a sweet lullaby that has the ability to make you feel both comforted and heartbroken in a matter of moments. It’s a meaningful goodbye that immediately leaves you with this feeling of longing. How one song can make you miss a person you haven’t even met is beyond my own comprehension but clearly Nick Hakim knows how to make that happen. All of his songs have a habit of pulling on some heart strings but this one cuts especially deep. The down tempo instrumentation and Nick’s voice are both soothing enough to rock you to sleep but part of you doesn’t want to, in fear that you’ll miss an important little piece of such a beautiful song.—Adrienne Black
