It’s not natural for every musician, even if they make it seem so. For Luka Seifert, it took quite a while. The 23-year-old producer has been playing in bands since he was 15, but it wasn’t until about a year ago that he started producing the music he’s making now. His lusciously warm sound is earthy, yet somehow still alien. The organic sound is fully-formed, and whilst it took a while for him to get to where he’s at sonically, it’s evident from his debut EP The Nest that it’s been worth the hard work.

“I come from a completely different musical background,” Luka tells us. He grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, and whilst it’s not always an obvious influence on his music, his direction isn’t quite as clear cut as other like-minded producers. A large bulk of The Nest features analog synths that Luka purchased recently, as he claims he “didn’t want it to sound too bedroom produced.” The whole EP was mastered in an analog studio in the UK, which gives it the warmer and more organic sound Luka was striving for.

I like to use different layers of sound, combine and manipulate them in a way that you might not be able to tell which instrument I used in the beginning.

The thick atmosphere comes through smoothly on tracks like “Lowdown,” but the whole EP is filled with hugely textural moments. It’s not exactly clear how the sounds are being crafted, but that’s just part of what makes his music so captivating. Listen to the premiere of The Nest below, and listen to more of his music here.
