Lil Silva’s new EP is excellent. There are two songs with BANKS, two songs with just his own warm vocals (one of which is the previously heard “Mabel“), and then there is the EP opener “First Mark.” It’s the track that most reflects his roots in UK funky and music made purely for the dancefloor, and it goes hard. The atmosphere that pervades the whole EP, a little mournful maybe even nostalgic for simpler times, is still evident on “First Mark,” thanks to the vocals and the gentle synth washes that sit between the see-sawing bass sections. It’s a considered and well-structure banger, but a banger nonetheless.

Lil Silva’s Mabel EP is out in the US on August 5 via Good Years / True Panther.
