“Darkest Place,” a single that British band Woman’s Hour released in September of last year, is one of the most subtly devastating and depressing songs about a breakup in recent memory. The band’s new single, “Her Ghost,” is another winer, keeping with the same fairly restrained production values and putting lead singer Fiona Burgess’ airy vocals front and center. It’s more hopeful than previous Woman’s Hour songs, with a driving beat eventually breaking through for an almost-anthemic final third of the song.
If this is what pop music sounds like in 2014, count us in.
