California duo MOORS (comprised of up-and-coming actor Keith Stanfield, who starred in indie hit Short Term 12, and producer HH) make a sort of reserved hip-hop that requires the listener to lean in a bit and pay attention. The moody Dntel remix of their single “Asphyxiated” is hushed and low key, Stanfield’s unhurried, intricate rapping (reminiscent of the more accessible side of the Anticon collective) running through the suffocation of depression. It’s a sobering listen made all the more so by its uniquely restrained style.
