James Vincent McMorrow is going to surprise a lot of people with his sophomore album Post Tropical. He’s moved on from the clear folk sounds of his debut album, and has embraced electronic-based production which, when paired with his airy, delicate falsetto, will have people drawing immediate comparisons to Bon Iver, and specifically the second Bon Iver record. McMorrow’s album doesn’t quite reach that rarefied air of beauty, but the highs come close, with “Red Dust” a real high point.
