In an official press release from Apple, Beyoncé’s self-titled album, which was quietly released on iTunes without any promotion on Thursday, is now the fastest selling album ever. In just three days, the album has sold 617,213 units in the U.S. alone, and 828,773 units worldwide. This, of course, is unsurprising, considering that Beyoncé saw 80,000 units sold in just three hours after the 14-track, 17-video visual album was released.
Considering the rate at which they’re going at, Bey’s numbers will trump Taylor Swift’s Red, which sold 1.2 million copies in November 2012, as the highest first-week sales for a female recording artist. Releasing the project in the way that she did was certainly a risky move, but it’s safe to say that Beyoncé pulled it off with style and grace.
