A couple of weeks back, Australian band The Holidays’ “Voices Drifting” appeared as a breath of fresh air, an anthemic rock song that earned its soaring stature with great writing that breathed life into a timeless concept: Escaping the doldrums of the everyday. The video for the lead single to the group’s upcoming album matches “Voices” with an intriguing interpretation, as lead singer Simon Jones sings underwater, buffeted by an array of colors and lights. It’s simple and straightforward, but its success is in execution and potential meaning, providing an image of a man drowning while singing of freedom before shouting and pulling his head out of the water. The video provides a beautiful new layer to “Voices Drifting.” Watch it below.
