Wavves’ Nathan Williams has teamed up once again with his brother Kynan to produce the majestically spastic beats of Sweet Valley. It’s the siblings’ fourth album as the side project, and it seems to be a way for them to excise some demons unreachable in their other musical life. Sweet Valley’s sounds are huge mountains of spinning synths and machine-gun snares. It feels like the brothers Williams are throwing down the gauntlet, challenging MCs to get on these beats that, while beautiful and beautifully done, could be described as…difficult.
Stream the album below. If nothing else, the sheer insanity of this album is one of the more original and intoxicating album-length progressions I’ve heard in recent memory.
