In the age of information overload, sometimes it’s nice to find something that seems to be born out of thin air with no context to cloud or influence judgment (although even a lack of context is sort of a context itself…pardon me before this post turns into a scene from Inception).

A quick glance at singer Jaymes Young’s Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud pages reveals…nothing. In this instance, it’s probably for the best. Debut single “Dark Star” speaks for itself.

“Dark Star” is equal parts haunting and anthemic, lurching forward on its massive beat–a surprisingly effective combination of dubstep-inspired synths, echoey claps, and ghostly flourishes of piano and guitar–while Young weaves his ethereal vocals around warnings to a would be loved one. It’s a potent introduction to a promising new voice.
