When the lovely sisters of HAIM were in session for Sirius XMU in February, they came through with an interesting cover of “I’ll Try Anything Once,” a Strokes b-side and early version of First Impressions Of Earth album opener “You Only Live Once.” Where the better known album version is a driving affair, Julian Casablancas put a much gentler, more reflective spin on a similar melody and lyrics on the b-side, a feeling which HAIM stay true to with this cover, which, by stripping away any distractions, also highlights the careworn brilliance of the lyrics.
