Video: Nadia Nair - "Bon Voyage"

“Genre-bending” gets thrown around a little too liberally when one or more sounds that normally fit into clean categorizations collide. Some instances, however, genuinely force you to think, “hmmm, that’s odd…not sure I’ve heard this before.”

Nadia Nair’s “Bon Voyage” isn’t exactly unprecedented, but it is an interesting mixture of guitar that boarders on bluesy, crunchy electronic stomp, and symphonic trappings to round out a picture around an arresting, husky voice. It’s not for everyone and it required a few listens before it made much sense to these ears, but it’s an intriguing, grandiose take on a darker corner of pop that cares little for easy classification.
