When last we heard Kids These Days, they were adding their brassy sheen and new lyrics to “Flashing Lights,” a hit by a slightly more famous Chicagoan. On new track “Don’t Harsh My Mellow,” the ascendant Chi-town band assumes a darker sound (perhaps influenced by a summer of violence in their hometown), a combination of familiar trap influences and live instrumentation that creates an exciting, grim energy–all before the tracks close in full-on mayhem. Quite a journey in just under three minutes and thirty seconds and a fitting introduction to upcoming project Traphouse Rock. Check out the video–featuring chaos in the halls of a high-school–below.
