It has been about a year since we first posted Mr Little Jeans and her (yes it’s a “her”) wonderful cover of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs”, but not content with making other artist’s songs her own she’s hit us up with a propulsive cut called “Runaway”. There’s a pounding, retro feel to the sweeping production as well as a soaring chorus that lets Monica Birkenes fully demonstrate her vocal prowess. And she does have a lovely voice – the kind that can suggest heartbreak without losing its warmth, and that you imagine would sound great over a wide range of instrumentation.
