It’s a good time for females in music, with ladies like Florence Welch and Adele stepping up to take on strong lead roles and pop stars like Lady Gaga mixing things up with a blend of mass appeal and oddball creativity. There are still the sexified eye candy girls, the quirky indie chicks, and plenty of in-betweens, but nothing quite like Meg Myers. She has the powerful voice, an anti-hipster approach, and a sometimes dark, ’90s kind of attitude that bleeds through songs like “Monster.”
After a few teasers, her debut EP is here. On Daughter In The Choir there is some dabbling into a more electronic sound on a few cuts, but Meg still shines brightest when the songwriting and vocals stand front and center on tracks like “Adelaide” and “Monster.”
