Kate Martin & The Shallowsea Choir - "Apples"

1.

Shit’s been pretty cray in Paris recently, so I haven’t posted for a while. But I’m back with lots of new music for your ears, starting with this offering from Australian songstress Kate Martin. Whilst I’m not quite so stereotypically minded that I expected an artist from “Townsville, Australia” to be a mix between Kylie Minogue and Crocodile Dundee (that’s exactly what I expected), I was certainly pleasantly surprised by the very English-sounding folk-pop that came out of my speakers.

Kate Martin is only 20 but has already released her debut album (last year’s Synthetic Shoes, Leather Boots) and is currently working on the follow up. “Apples” is the first single from the new album, and is a great introduction to the bittersweet lyrics and mellow voice of the clearly talented Miss Martin, as well as her ear for a catchy chorus. Stream it below, hit the jump for the accompanying video and if you so wish, head to her Soundcloud to hear some more tracks.
