Jay-Z & Kanye West - "Watch The Throne" (Album Stream)

Well, today was miserable. If you didn’t notice, Pigeons and Planes got hacked. You probably didn’t notice, because you were probably too busy visiting all your favorite social networking funstops and reading everyone’s opinion of Watch The Throne. While you were busy doing that, I was busy talking to people who are smarter than me about technical things that I do not understand, thinking the whole time, “U fix this 4 me?” I felt like a child who got his head stuck between the railings on the stairs, trying to free myself by wiggling, when it was obvious that more drastic measures needed to be taken. We’re good now.

I know everyone wants to get opinions about the album, but I’m going to hold off before sharing too much of mine, mostly because I really haven’t spent enough time listening to this yet. What I will say is this – with Watch The Throne comes the lion’s share of high expectations. If you’re still caught up on The College Dropout and The Blueprint, you can cut your losses, skip this album completely, and go browse through your middle school yearbook.

Just look at that fucking album cover. This is 2011, and Jay and ‘Ye have evolved into more than just rappers. Over the years they’ve become just as big a part of pop culture as they have of hip-hop, and even though their lives are constantly under a magnifying glass, their images still remain larger. All of this comes across on Watch The Throne, but in an unlikely way. Somehow, the hip-hop powerhouses manage to flip things, sometimes glorifying their own larger-than-life reality and appealing to our fantasies, and other times playing reporter or storyteller and appealing to our real life dreams, struggles, and feelings. The glory of kings, the admiration of the common folk. I guess that’s what you might expect from the throne, and it’s all there.

Hit the comments section with your thoughts, if you have any. You can buy the album here. Stream it after the jump…
