This is the latest mixtape from Trouble Andrew. If you’re not familiar, he’s a pro snowboarder and all around badass. He describes his music as “Crunk rock” aka Douche Wave, Douche core and adds in a “lol”, a glimpse into Andrew’s laid back attitude about his music. He grew up in Nova Scotia and British Columbia and now spends time in both Canada and Brooklyn (although his music sounds so west coast to me) listening to music from skate and snowboarding videos, and you can hear that influence in his sound. There’s a definite hip-hop edge to a lot of it, but it’s also got a punkish feel and plenty of surf guitar. Also plenty of attitude.
I was in the process of recording my new full length Trouble Andrew album “ Dreams of a Troubled Man” and the mixtape came together on the side because so many friends and artists were around hanging out and recording shit through the process that we didn’t even realize I was making a mixtape until we had it finished. It was cool to do a project that didn’t really have to be consistent or have a story except that we all are individuals. That’s why I love mixtapes. Featuring an incredible range of collaborators including Lil Jon, Spankrock, Amanda Blank, Santigold, Diplo, John Hill, Stunnaman, Hollywood Holt, Curren$y, Ninjasonik, Jackie Chain and many more.
