Canadian rap legend Kardinal Offishall announced today he’s joining Def Jam as their latest Global A&R, where he’ll be working alongside CEO Tunji Balogun and executive VP LaTrice Burnette. He revealed the news on his Instagram page.

Kardinal’s role will allow him to scout and subsequently sign talent from all across the world.

“I feel incredibly blessed to be able to work with the new faces of Def Jam,” Kardinal Offishall wrote in the release. “I will physically be in the U.S. and across the globe on a regular basis, as per usual, but Toronto will always be home. Been working – I can’t wait for y’all to see what we have cooking. Rocking wit the winning team.”

“This time last year, I was in a hospital bed and couldn’t walk more than a few steps," Kardinal added in the post’s caption. “To whomever is reading this: speak your dreams into existence and keep God first.”

Kardinal Offishall is far from new to the A&R game, having previously been a part of Universal Music Canada as their Senior Vice President, A&R, since 2021.

Though Kardinal Offishall hasn’t released any new music since 2021, he appeared in the pilot episode of CBC’s Run the Burbs just over a year ago.
