Afroman has officially launched his bid for the nation’s highest office.

According to TMZ, the “Because I Got High” artist has filed the necessary paperwork to run in the 2024 presidential race against a growing pool of both Democrat and Republican candidates. The documents were apparently submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, just days before Afroman—legal name Joseph Edgar Foreman—participated in 4/20 festivities.

His campaign manager, Jason Savage, confirmed the Los Angeles native is running on a platform of marijuana legalization and criminal justice reform, two issues for which he has consistently advocated. Savage touched on Afroman’s ongoing legal battle with Ohio authorities, saying the matter underscores the corruption within the U.S. criminal justice system.

“Afroman’s ongoing persecution by the overtly corrupt Adams County Sheriff’s Department perfectly highlights that this corruption of leadership has trickled down to law enforcement all across the country,” Savage said. “Criminal Justice Reform and Federal Marijuana Legalization remain two of the primary planks in his campaign platform. We are asking for your support as Afroman takes on this great and worthy cause as our Cannabis Commander in Chief.”

Afroman, who is running as an independent, announced his presidential campaign in December 2022. He shared a lengthy Instagram message in which Savage referred to him as the country’s next “Cannabis Commander in Chief” and “Pot Head of State.”

“There comes a time in the course of human events when change must be affected. That time is now,” the announcement read in part. “Americans are suffering, and the status quo is no longer acceptable. Inflation is out of control. The economy is in shambles. The housing market is staggering. Politicians are corrupt. Bad apples are allowed to remain in law enforcement, amongst our noble and brave officers. Medicinal plants are criminalized, while pharmaceutical companies enrich themselves on chemicals with unknown side effects … Who better to hold the highest office in the land, than the highest and flyest playa in the game? He is for the black man, Mexican, even poor white, all human beings that have no rights. So put down your past, and pick up your future.”

He also outlined the cornerstones of his campaign, including reparations for Black Americans, legalization of prostitution, and the halt of all foreign aid.
