Kaytranada Gives Away 19 Tracks For Free

Out of the blue today, with absolutely no warning, Montreal-based beat genius Kaytranda posted a download link to a zip file of 19 unreleased works. At first it was put out through Dropbox, but that link quickly got overwhelmed, because free music from Kaytranada makes people go crazy. As of right now, though, you can grab the folder from a new Mediafire link that he posted. One can only speculate as to why he made this move but there's a strong chance he's emptying the vaults as a gesture to fans in the run up to his debut EP on XL Recordings this summer.

You might think, as I did, that this is a collection of toss-offs but you'd be very wrong. Sure quite a few of these tracks are obvious experiments that would have no place on a proper release but they're still really cool. Others, like the track "246" could have been part of an official release without anyone blinking an eye, in fact they would have been a standout. Still more are amazing edits or remixes of R&B tracks in the style that Kaytranada is so famous for (the "Body Party" remix is especially nice). Why am I even trying to sell this to you. This is a no brainer.

EDIT A Kaytranada-produced cut from GoldLink entitled "Sober Thoughts" is included in this pack. GoldLink recently had this to say about the track: ""Sober Thoughts" is a song about an unhealthy relationship I was in with a girl, where we would continue to mistreat each other, to spite each other. We were bad for each other, yet we always came back together, because we thought we "loved each other." It was a young love, not a forever love. I was addicted to her and she was addicted to me, like a drug. We knew we should stop, but we kept going. In the end, I ask God for his help by saying, "You may not come when I want you, but you right on time."
