Though its name implies heavily that it's merely a dating site sponsored by a streaming service, Spotify Singles is actually a reliably strong source for live renditions and surprise covers.

For his predictably great appearance on the ongoing series, Elton Fuckin' John threw down a cover of Khalid's "Young Dumb & Broke," as well as a rendition of his own noted mega-classic "Bennie and the Jets." In an accompanying statement to Pitchfork Wednesday, John said he's been a Khalid appreciator for years.

"It's a thrill to be a small part of any new artist’s journey, and it's been wonderful to see his star continue to rise and rise," 71-year-old John said, noting that he and the now-20-year-old "finally met" when he played a show in El Paso in 2017. "'Young Dumb & Broke' is a fabulous song, one of my favorites, and I'm really pleased that he liked my cover enough to contribute vocals."

John having excellent taste will come as no surprise to anyone who's been paying attention. His own "Rocket Man," after all, forms the basis of Young Thug's 2018 highlight "High." He's also worked with Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Starting in September, John embarked on what he's saying will be his final tour. The trek, which he's dubbed the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, is scheduled to span three years and—if the first round of shows' typical setlist is any indication—fans should be pleased. And if there's any goodness left in this world, we'll also get a co-headlining night in an arena with John and Thugger at some point over the next three years.
