Earlier this year, fans of Big Sean and Jhene Aiko were treated to an extension of previous collaborations, which include “Beware” and “I Know” with the pair’s Twenty88 project. The union between both Def Jam artists scored them a top five debut with first week sales of roughly 40,000 units sold, and according to Big Sean, they plan to continue releasing music together in 2017.

Thank you the next @twenty88 album is coming next year. We gon get our solo's off too though! #Dons #Soulmates #88

“The next Twenty88 album is coming next year,” Sean told his 9.2 million twitter followers Sunday afternoon. The statement was in response to one particular fan’s compliment to Sean about the album.

According to K-Ci & Jo-Jo, who were featured on the Detail-produced “2 Minute Warning,” some of the final touches for the self-titled album came together at the last minute.

“Once we got in the studio [with Sean], I was like, ‘What is this song really talking about?’” Jo-Jo told Billboard magazine in a March interview. “He started saying some of the raps and I was like, ‘Okay, this is one of them freaky songs right here!’ Everything happened so fast. We didn’t know what we were stepping into.”

Big Sean noted both he and Jhene Aiko have plans to finish their respective solo albums before a planned Twenty88 sophomore project. The Detroit native enjoyed one of his most successful commercial releases with 2015’s Dark Sky Paradise. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA. Aiko dropped her first full-length set, Souled Out, in 2014. According to Billboard magazine, her first week sales of 70,000 units earned Aiko the top selling R&B/Hip-Hop Albums during its release week.
