Hurricane Chris is looking to get payback by preparing a lawsuit to recoup all the damages and lost wages he missed due to the three-year legal battle over a second-degree murder charge.
According to TMZ, Chris is preparing a civil lawsuit against the Shreveport Police Department. According to the rapper, the police department failed to give him due process and didn't properly investigate his case, where he was accused of shooting and killing Danzeria Farris in 2020.
"The police really failed to investigate my case," Chris told the outlet. "Everybody on the scene understood what happened, but when the detective got me downtown and started questioning me, [it] started off with, 'Hey, you had a song on the radio, right?' And then, from there, everything went downhill."
He continued, "I didn't stand a chance. I lost over $1.4 million. I had a movie deal coming up. I signed to an acting agency before I was arrested. I lost the deal with the acting agency, one of the biggest agencies in Louisiana."
Hurricane Chris claimed the ongoing legal issue affected his burgeoning acting career as he was preparing to audition for FX's Snowfall and STARZ's BMF. The 34-year-old was found not guilty on all counts in his murder trial back in March.
Throughout his trial, the defense team presented testimony from two witnesses while prosecutors presented 11 witnesses. If he was found guilty, he faced the potential of life in prison.
"Tonight I was found not guilty of second degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things," said Hurricane Chris in a statement shared with The Shade Room at the time. "I wanna thank God, my attorneys at the Washington & Wells law firm, and my family for standing with me as my life was on the line. They wanted to give me life if I was found guilty."
He added, "Now I can hug my son and think about raising him to be a man. This situation drained me and affected my health greatly. God, I give you all the glory. I got my life back and words can't explain how I feel. Thanks to everyone who wished me well."
