Winnipeg’s Super Duty Tough Work open their new single “First Strike” with a confident bang as rapper Brendan Grey nonchalantly tells his listeners that they are now in the company of the most underrated killers on your playlist.
“Serenade me when I come in / Trump is my introduction, drums thumping like 21 guns done salute me that’s the custom,” Grey raps right after the intro.
Along with the song, the group also released a harrowing visualizer where two men are tying up a hooded prisoner with the face of a crying Kyle Rittenhouse stuck to him.
Super Duty is a hip-hop group founded in 2014 led by Grey and backed by a seven-piece ensemble composed of musicians specializing in horns, drums, bass, guitar, and keys. In an interview with CBC, Grey described Super Duty as “Public Enemy Meets Griselda and Sampa the Great.”
With the release of their new single, Super Duty also announced their signing to Canadian indie label Next Door Records.
Super Duty released their last project, Studies in Grey, in 2019 which become longlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. In the same year, Super Duty was nominated for Best Rap/Hip Hop Group at the Western Canadian Music Awards.
