It's music festival season, and today marks the first day of the two-weekend 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival. With everyone from Wu-Tang Clan to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Pusha T and Earl Sweatshirt taking the stage, this year's line-up is stacked.

There's no better way to anticipate this year's festival than to look at the years past, where acts like Rage Against The Machine reunited on stage or where The Cure played after curfew, even without their speakers on.

Tyler, the Creator Gets Kicked Out

Date: 4/16/2011

Tyler, the Creator and the Odd Future crew walked around Coachella toting water guns—which they sprayed in the faces of a few security guards. They got kicked out the day after their opening set. Watch the performance here:

The Cure Finishes Set After Curfew, Plays With Speakers Turned Off

Date: 4/19/2009

The Cure's set ran nearly three hours, which went past the Coachella curfew of around 12:40 a.m. The sound was pulled and right during "Boys Don't Cry," the speakers dropped. The crowd, however, helped The Cure finish off the legendary performance, even without sound.

The Pixies Sell Out Coachella for the First Time

Date: 5/1/2004

The Pixies concluded their North American club tour with a headlining act at Coachella, which, after an 11-year hiatus, sold out. It was the first Coachella event to ever sell out, and the crowd went insane for the Pixies.

Stephen Malkmus of Pavement Has a Semi-Breakdown on Stage

Date: 10/10/1999

Pavement's performance at the 1999 Coachella festival is painful to watch. Lead singer Stephen Malkmus is unable to get through songs, and his attitude seems to deteriorate throughout the entire performance. Weeks later, he told the band that he couldn't "do it anymore" which led to their breakup shortly thereafter.

Kanye West's "Flies In" for an Incredible Closing Set

In true Kanye form, he closed out Coachella with a three-act set for an hour and 40 minutes. It all started off with "Dark Fantasy," the introductory track to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He ascended to the skies via moving platform, zipped over the crowd, and landed on stage to perform a jaw-dropping set.

Rage Against The Machine Reunites Onstage

Date: 4/29/2007

After breaking up in Fall 2000, Rage Against The Machine reunited seven years later as a headlining act at Coachella, where Zack de la Rocha let off years of steam, right on the mic, midway through the performance.

Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips Crowd Surfs in a Bubble

Date: 5/2/2004

Frontman Wayne Coyne's crowd surfed in his signature man-sized plastic bubble during their live performance while the band was dressed in crazy costumes and beach balls flew in the air.

New Order Becomes Joy Division Again

Date: 5/1/2005

Close to the 25th anniversary of Ian Curtis' tragic death, New Order graced the Coachella stage to perform Joy Division songs, something the band had not done in two decades. They performed "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Transmission," leaving the audience in awe.

Daft Punk Unveils 3D Neon Pyramid Set

Date: 4/29/2006

During their first live U.S. performance since 1997, Daft Punk performed backed by a towering LED pyramid and full-on light show. It was an incredible live performance and an overall experience that shocked, and pleased, Coachella attendees.

Iggy & The Stooges Reunite After Nearly Three Decades

The legendary Iggy & The Stooges reunited on stage at the 2003 Coachella Festivae, with Mike Watt filling in for the late Ron Asheton on bass. They opened the set with "Loose" and went through hits like "I Wanna Be Your Dog" with Iggy on the floor, belting into the mic.

Madonna Performs "Hung Up" in the Dance Tent

Bauhaus Performs Hanging Upside Down

Date: 5/8/2005

Peter Murphy began Bauhaus' Coachella performance suspended high, hanging upside down like a bat. The band stayed together for three years after the successful Coachella performance, too.

Morrissey Walks Off Stage After Smelling "Burning Flesh"

"I can smell burning flesh...and I hope to God it's human," Morrissey said on stage before gagging and eventually walking off the stage due to the smell.

Rihanna Rolls a Blunt on Her Bodyguard's Head

Roger Waters Releases a Floating Pig During His Set

Date: 4/28/2008

Roger Waters was the first artist to ever perform back-to-back sets at Coachella, and during the performance, he released a two-story inflatable pig into the skies while playing a version of Pink Floyd's "Pigs." The pig had "Don't be led to the slaughter" painted on it and a cartoon of Uncle Sam holding two bloody cleavers.

Die Antwoord Gives an Insane Interview

The Coachella crowds didn't know what hit them when Die Antwoord took the stage. They performed for less than 20 minutes, but still managed to get things turned up. Then, they granted Complex with this golden interview.

Arcade Fire Drops LED-Lit Beach Balls During Their Set

During Arcade Fire's last song "Wake Up," beach balls, controlled by LEDs and IR transmitters in each ball, were thrown into the crowd to light up the entire audience.

Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra Performs for Funny or Die

For a full 90 minutes, Jeff Goldblum and his 'band,' the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, performed on a piano for a Funny or Die mockumentary of his first performance at Coachella. The performance was technically not even held on Coachella grounds but right outside, in an empty parking lot.

2Pac Performs as a Hologram

During the festival-closing set by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, 2Pac was brought out in the form of a hologram. It's haunting and phenomenal to watch him perform "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" with the duo.
