Lil Yachty Explains Why He Doesn't 'F*ck With Sean Paul,’ Talks Origins of Beef

The rapper explained his issues with Sean Paul in the premiere episode of his new podcast, 'A Safe Place.'

Lil Yachty didn’t mince words when it came to his feelings about Sean Paul.

The Grammy-nominated rapper explained his beef with the dancehall icon in the premiere broadcast of A Safe Place, his Full Send podcast series co-hosted by MitchGoneMad. During Thursday’s episode, titled “The Art of Hate,” Yachty and Mitch discussed the “concept of falling off” and how there were some artists who undeservedly lost relevancy.

“There be certain n****s that shouldn’t even fall off. Like, uh, who’s that one n***a...” Mitch said around the 28:10 mark, before reciting lyrics to Paul’s 2002 hit “Gimme the Light.” “Why that n***a fall off? And Shaggy.”

“Nobody ever said Sean Paul fell off,” Yachty responded. “They just stopped making music. I don’t think they’re still dropping music… By the way, f**k Sean Paul. I want to make that very clear, I don’t f**k with Sean Paul. Sean Paul once dissed me in a radio interview.”

Yachty was referring to Paul’s 2016 appearance on The Breakfast Club, where he addressed the crop of up-and-coming rappers and their perceived disinterest in old-school hip-hop. The interview aired shortly after Yachty claimed he couldn’t name five songs by Tupac or the Notorious B.I.G.

“If it was really about talent in the hip hop industry, you wouldn’t have some of these younger cats talking that … the Lil Yachty dem. The ‘boat boy,’” Paul said. “I mean, I don’t know much of the dude’s music either. I don’t like his comments. Those are artists I revere. I understand that probably kids don’t care about writing right now. I understand they don’t know where hip-hop started…”

Mitch co-signed Yachty’s position: “Man, fuck him. He did make some hot shit though.”
