No prizes for guessing where the inspiration for this track came from.

Next Friday, Astral Black top dog Jon Phonics will release his brand new full-length project, Beats To Talk Crud To, a 12-track collection of productions collected together between 2008 and 2018, and inspired by various cultural touchstones from hip-hop's history.

Today, we're highlighting "Paid In Full", a track obviously inspired by the Eric B. & Rakim classic, and filled with wild effects, luscious '80s synths and a jazzy, Dilla-esque bass line to push it forward. The rest of the tape makes nods to U.S films like Menace 2 SocietyDead Presidents and even more local cinema moments like TrainspottingLock Stock and French masterpiece La Haine.

Beats To Talk Crud To drops June 22 digitally and on cassette (pre-order here). Take a listen to "Paid In Full" below.
