Petrie

A couple of weeks ago, we shared with you the video for "June", the latest single from London pop duo Petrie. That video signaled the imminent arrival of the duo's new four-track EP, Self-Destruct, which has just been released. As the pair explain below, the theme of the EP isn't so much destruction, it's more about rebirth. Across the four tracks, Laurie and George run through themes of love, heartbreak and everything else that comes with a quarter-life crisis. It may sound tumultuous but it's all articulated through a combination of tender songwriting, upbeat rhythms and bursts of colourful melody.

The duo told Complex: "This EP attempts to purge the darkness, irony and mystique of our Slurs EP; the obsession with 'vibe', 'groove' and whatever, replacing it with honest, colourful lyrics and sonic backdrops that tumble out without fanfare. Melancholic and manic, ecstatic and unashamedly neurotic, it represents a difficult year of roadblocks and rebirth—the old Petrie self-destructed for endless, tiresome reasons, and now we're building a new, more personal world of tantalising heartbreak, wonderful myths of summer and a bounty of ice-cream van lemon ice."
