We’ve heard a lot from Novelist these past few weeks.
Late last month, the Lewisham native got the ball rolling on Oblig’s new Obligated label with its first single, “Mercy”, and then he answered the call from D Double E to chip in some rhymes for his all-star grime marathon “Mobb Mentality”.
Never one to let the dust settle, the recent UMA award winner is back with a jam of his own, “All I Know”, which he just uploaded to his SoundCloud, and it is just what the grime scene needed.
Entirely self-produced, the punchy, stuttering drums with Nov’s deadpan delivery on the hook give it an almost G-Funk edge, slipping in a looped melody and furtive blasts of low-end for an added hydraulic boost. If this is what Novelist’s prepared to put up on SoundCloud as a loosie, it makes you wonder what else he’s got in the pipeline.
