Between Sam Wise, BlazeYL, and the rest of House Of Pharaohs’ solo pursuits, it’s been a little while since we heard from them as a unit—not since they wrapped up a spate of singles in 2021 with “Al Capone”. Kicking off the new year with a huge bang, they return with “New Era”, a sub-zero slice of grime with Jme drafted in for production and mic duties.

It’s a bit of a change of pace from some of the South London rap collective’s more recent offerings, but fans of the grimier moments on their hard-edged 2017 opus, Real Faces, will surely get a kick out of this one. Just as dramatic is the video, a greyscale affair directed by Elliot Simpson that tracks the collective through the urban sprawl.

The new release also came with a statement announcing their plans for the future. Under the tagline ‘Freedom For The Rebellious’, they confirm the new track is the first from an upcoming new project. They don’t share much more than that, only that they’ve “got [their] house in order” and that there’ll be more music and more live shows.

On the subject of the Jme collab and how it came together, the statement reads: “The feature with Jme, for us, is almost surreal since this is a pillar of the UK grime scene. He is someone who showed us homage when we first came on the scene as raw talent by sending us beats he would produce that he knew were within our creative lane. For it to come around full circle... Having his energy unmatched on the day of the [video] shoot just makes this release feel so right and we are grateful for it.”
