NATIVE Sound System—the music project from Nigeria’s NATIVE Magazine—have dropped their official debut album, NATIVEWORLD, featuring some of the hottest names from the diaspora.
From alté pioneer Odunsi to one of the hottest names in UK rap, Knucks, the 15-track project manages to blend said genres—and many more—into a cohesive offering, with production from the likes of P.Priime, DOZ, Tyler Turner, 4Play, GMK and Sholz. “For the album, we were in the midst of trying to create the seasons of a year in Lagos—Rainy, Dry, Harmattan and Christmas seasons,” says Chubbz, founder of the NATIVE empire.
And the finished product deserves your attention.
Standout tracks include “Runaway” with Ayra Starr and Lojay, “Wedding Ring” with Wani, BOJ, Odunsi and Odeal, “University” with TeeZee and NSG, and “TGIF” featuring Gabzy. The album is a refreshing addition to an Afrobeats scene that has the eyes of the world on it right now.
