What The Hell Just Happened In Music This Week?

After months of speculation, Nicki Minaj finally shared the release date for her highly-anticipated album The Pinkprint. Her third studio release is set to drop in October, and already boasts two hit singles in "Pills N Potions" and "Anaconda," the latter record climbing as high as No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 since being released last month. In a year that has been relatively quiet of major rap releases, Nicki Minaj has the opportunity to own 2014.

Kanye West made headlines this week as well when the rapper was rushed to a hospital after suffering an "intense" migrane following a pick-up game of basketball with his friends. At the time, Kanye was in the middle of his Australian leg of the "Yeezus" tour, scheduled to perform back-to-back nights at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Thankfully, the Chicago rapper made it through the minor health scare just fine.

Date: September 8

Meek Mill was originally scheduled to drop his new album, Dreams Worth More Than Money, September 9, but seeing how the Philly MC has been in jail since early July, it comes as no surprise that that isn't happening. To cement what everyone already knew, MMG's Rick Ross released a statement, updating the status of the project and confirming the push back, while also mentioning Meek's dedication to making the album perfect. He also gives a heads up on Meek's status in jail, assuring fans that he is in good spirits during this difficult time. Rozay didn't give a new date for the new album, which is no surprise with Meek's legal status still being very much up in the air. Ross' full statement can be read below.

Date: September 8

Atlanta rapper Childish Gambino sat down with Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and gave a very in-depth interview. The actor-turned-rapper pulled no punches when the topic of “realness” in hip-hop is brought up.

Gambino and Rosenberg spoke at length about the idea of street credibility and the barriers that he has to face to get people to respect him. Gambino brings up Drake, a rapper he is often compared to, who also has his credibility questioned frequently. “Drake doesn't get asked, 'Are you hard enough?' or anything like that even though Drake's life is really my life,” Gambino said. “I really grew up in the hood.” Gambino also made comments towards Drake in a live freestyle a few weeks ago, which raises more questions about the relationship between the two.

Gambino thinks his street cred constantly gets tested by interviewers, and he explicitly calls out Eric and Jeff Rosenthal (known as “ItsTheReal”), who Gambino says he is cool with even though they make fun of him on social media.

“I get it. I'm wearing a grandma sweater,” he said during the interview. “But I am also a black male. I still have to wear this grandma sweater when I go see my grandma in the Bronx. Who lives in a shitty neighborhood. [Where] my cousin just got shot and stabbed twice hustling there.”

Towards the end of the interview, Gambino expands on the differences between his rapping career and his comedic background and also gives a hint that his new mixtape will drop soon. —Justin Davis

The wait is finally over. Nicki Minaj has confirmed November 24 as the release date for The Pinkprint. The album, which will feature the singles “Pills N Potions” and “Anaconda,” was originally rumored to have a Beyoncé-esque roll out as Nicki hinted that there may not be a traditional release at all. However, a report came out recently that the album would have a November release, just in time for Black Friday. With anticipation swelling, and “Anaconda” breaking records, Nicki Minaj went to Twitter to finally soothe our worries. —Justin Davis

Following the success of her latest album My Everything, Ariana Grande has announced plans to embark on “The Honeymoon” tour next February. This will be Grande's first headlining tour in North America, with scheduled stops in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles included on the 25-date trek that goes through mid-April.

Grande's sophomore set My Everything recently debuted at No. 1 with 169,000 copies sold. That number will surely rise later this month when Ariana Grande makes her musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live on September 27. Check out the full dates for “The Honeymoon” tour below.

An eyewitness claims Kanye West had a health scare in Australia. According to Woman's Day, the rapper was rushed to Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital in Richmond for an emergency MRI. He had one side of his face covered, and was brought in through the back door while surrounded by security.

The witness, who was at the hospital with her daughter, says that “everyone was moved out of the waiting and consulting rooms.” “We were the only ones left apart from doctors and nurses—we couldn't leave as the MRI wasn’t finished,” the eyewitness told Woman's Day.

Kanye, who is currently in Australia for the current leg of his “Yeezus” tour, was eventually released and performed later in the day. His reps and the hospital have not given a comment on the incident as of yet.

Following initial information from Woman's Day, TMZ reports Kanye West was suffering from an “intense” migraine, and not a seizure. His entourage rushed him to the emergency room after playing basketball, where doctors determined that his symptoms were not serious. —Justin Davis

Date: September 11

It might be time for Chris Brown to retire from performing in nightclubs altogether. According to TMZ, cops were called in response to a bottle-throwing brawl during Chris Brown's performance at a club in NYC's Meatpacking district around 3:30 a.m. No arrests were made and the police aren't sure about Breezy's involvement in the fight, but one person did suffer an eye injury during the incident.

This all seems rather ironic, seeing that the details of this incident almost exactly mirror Breezy's infamous 2012 NYC bar fight with Drake's entourage where NBA player Tony Parker suffered an eye injury. A witness told TMZ that Breezy was indeed in the club and V.I.P. room when the fight took place, but at this point, additional details are not yet known. Last month, Chris Brown hosted a party at the club where Suge Knight was shot six times. —Zach Frydelund

Originally the Thursday Night Football match-up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens was going to feature “Run This Town” in some sort of pregame segment. Instead, the Ray Rice fiasco took over the league this week and (in the process) will now cost Rihanna a royalty check. That's because CBS Sports has opted to pull the 2009 hit because of a tenuous link between the disgraced running back and Rihanna. As you already know, Rihanna had a run-in with domestic violence and nobody wants this Ray Rice shit-storm to get any worse. So, CBS Sports has decided to just play it safe.

Not that anybody gives a crap about a pregame show, but the replacement will feature a half-hour Ray Rice story and an interview with the Ravens owner. Sounds like CBS thought of the only thing worse than an overhyped preview of the game you're about to watch anyway and just ran with it.

CNN is reporting Rihanna will be featured in next week's Thursday Night Football broadcast. A spokesman for the NFL Network told CNN that, while “Run This Town” was removed from this week's broadcast, it won't be scrapped from Thursday Night Football altogether. —Gavin Evans
