Muni Long is channeling her pain through art.

The R&B star, who landed a partnership between Def Jam and her label Supergiant Records back in March, is back with her new single “Pain” and an emotional music video adding even more depth to the track.

The song sees Long tap into her specialized vocal runs as she sings of a relationship that’s seen its fair share of ups and downs. The video, self-directed by Long with Tony Bowen, is full of enough tears to match that energy.

It’s been an eventful year for Long, who outside of the continued growth of tracks like “Hrs & Hrs” and “Time Machine,” is still celebrating her Def Jam win after years of seeing independent success. Back on April 12, she shared her follow-up single to EP Public Displays Of Affection, “Another.”

“It has been a lifelong goal of mine to be able to bring my gifts to the world,” Muni said in a statement in March. “This alignment with [chairman and CEO Tunji Balogun] and Def Jam for a global takeover is a literal dream come true. Supergiant Records started as an idea between myself and my husband Raysean in 2019 and over the course of the next two years we would invest, hire, strategize and create. As our team grew, so did our success, and as a result of hours and hours of hard work and intense focus, this year we reaped a bountiful harvest.”
