"This is the new normal," they keep saying as isolation continues and we learn to adapt to an increasingly bizarre and confusing time. In some ways it can be surprisingly easy to adapt to extreme circumstances, but it's still worth remembering that this isn't normal.

That's the thinking behind Kadiata's new single "Blindside" (and the recently released EP it's lifted from, Blind, This Summer). The track itself is a super bubbly, bouncy UKG number (with production from Michelin Shin) that's soaked in golden era tropes. Meanwhile, the video has its own nostalgic edge, with shots of people hanging out the windows on a summer day that'll have you longing for a return to normality. Adding a tinge of poignancy, that sunny optimism is countered with the sobering images of ambulances on every street corner while nervous, masked shoppers scurry round the streets.

Speaking with Complex via email, Kadiata told us: "The EP is a brave step in an uncharted direction, tying good music with organically written dialogue to tell a story in the format of an audio movie. 'Blindside''s video is the perfect child of this strange time of COVID-19; showing the dark sides with hella ambulances, police cars and people in masks as well as showing what Londoners do best which is keeping our spirits despite bad situations."
