Anderson .Paak's band Free Nationals are back with "Time," their first official release since 2018's "Beauty & Essex." The latest track features the late Mac Miller as well as Kali Uchis and premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show as his World Record.
Over a smooth groove, Mac raps about the struggles of a relationship and how both sides are dealing with it ("I'm making the wrong decisions and you sick of it all/But don't leave me, don't leave me"), which is a theme Kali doubles down on with the hook ("I gotta take some time to grow/But I don't want to let you go").
"Time" marks Mac's first official posthumous release. The beloved artist died of an accidental overdose at 26 in September 2018.
.Paak, who was close with Mac Miller, previously paid tribute to Mac on "Cheers" off Oxnard, as well as at the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards. "Mac Miller was a humble rock star, he was a rapper's rapper, he was a[n] actor, a comedian, a musical genius [...] Mac Miller was a brother, he was my friend," he said. "I loved him and I still love him." Anderson .Paak also dedicated his Coachella 2019 performance of "Dang!" to Mac and Nipsey Hussle.
