Traditionally, the music played in-house between sets is curated by the headliner. With that in mind, the music that played before Ariana Grande took the stage for her inaugural Sweetener World Tour stop in Albany Monday night struck quite an emotional chord with attending fans.
Ahead of her tour opening set, fans at the Times Union Center were treated to the sounds of the late Mac Miller's Anderson .Paak-featuring 2016 Divine Feminine single "Dang!" Fans were quick to point out the track, featuring production from Pomo, via Twitter.
And here's footage of the moment:
Normani and Social House (who notably co-produced "thank u, next") are on the road with Grande for the Sweetener World Tour dates, which are set to continue March 20 at the TD Garden in Boston. Last month, Grande bagged her first Grammy win by emerging victorious in the Best Pop Vocal Album category with Sweetener, her 15-track fourth album that was followed within months by the equally strong thank u, next.
Over the weekend, Madlib kept up his habit of including previously unheard tracks in his DJ sets by previewing an unreleased Thundercat and Mac Miller collab.
Miller's own Swimming, the last album released during his lifetime, was among last year's Best Rap Album nominees. That honor ultimately went to Cardi B's studio debut Invasion of Privacy.
