Singer-songwriter Maggie Lindemann has come through with a new single titled "Human," as well as an eerie, seasonally appropriate music video premiering here on Complex. Directed by Kajal and featuring Rickey Thompson, the visual features Lindemann in a variety of oh-so-goth outfits, singing her way through a haunted mansion with contortionists spending some time together at the dinner table. (Don't worry, the place still has a pool.) You won't be surprised to hear the song's vibe was originally inspired by Winona Ryder's Lydia character from the 1988 film Beetlejuice.

“I’m absolutely obsessed with this video, it’s definitely my favorite one yet,” Maggie told Complex. “As I enter the house I’m turning into this underworld queen/undead dead type thing. There are all these contortionists around me that are all spooky, which is so sick, it gives it more of a scary vibe which is what I was really shooting for."

The 20-year-old "Pretty Girl" singer spoke on how the song is "about literally not feeling human" and the ways that things like anxiety, isolation, and substance abuse contribute to that. “Doing too many drugs or drinking too much to take a feeling away turns you into someone who’s not yourself, not going out because you’ve secluded yourself from the world. I think everyone can take away a different feeling from the song but for me it was always about having anxiety."

She detailed her experience further, saying anxiety has manifested itself as "not feeling human enough to go out, but if I did go out I was getting messed up to take these voices away, my insecurities and my anxiety telling me shit about myself. Feeling alone and like nobody really gets it unless they could see through my eyes. The things we struggle with can make us feel less human sometimes and I want people to know that I’m there with them and I feel you, but we’ll be okay.”
