Kanye West fans may be considering heading to school in Chicago after the College Dropout tweeted on Monday that he will teach classes at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art.
But according to two statements sent to The FADER, neither of the institutions plan on having Mr. West become Professor West. At least, not anytime soon.
“We're flattered that Mr. West would have an interest in teaching emerging artists and designers at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; however, Mr. West is not currently teaching at SAIC, and at this time, there are no plans for him to do so,” the Art Institute of Chicago told FADER.
The American Academy of Art sent the magazine a similar response. “The folks at the American Academy of Art said there are no current plans for Kanye to speak or teach at the institution,” a rep for the school wrote. “That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t talk to him about the idea, but no discussions about the topic (or any) have transpired in the recent past.”
Back in 2015, Ye received an honorary doctorate from the SAIC. "West is a thinker and maker who often uses his work—his lyrics, videos, performances, designs and paintings—to deconstruct stereotypes and spur cultural discourse on important social issues," the college told Complex at the time.
Both institutions seem more than willing to at least consider letting West teach a course at their campuses, but there's definitely no concrete plan to make that happen in the near future. Perhaps Ye is simply taking his own advice, and manifesting what he wants by tweeting it.
